What Are Macronutrients?
Macronutrients — commonly called "macros" — are the three primary categories of nutrients that provide energy and structural support to the body: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Unlike vitamins and minerals, which are needed in small amounts, macronutrients are consumed in grams and form the bulk of every meal you eat.
Each macronutrient supplies a measurable amount of energy: carbohydrates and protein each provide approximately 4 calories per gram, while fat delivers about 9 calories per gram. Carbohydrates: The Body's Primary Fuel Source

Saturated fats, present in red meat and full-fat dairy, are generally recommended in moderation by major health organizations.
